Abuse Counselling
Counselling For Abuse Survivors
(Physical, sexual and emotional abuse counselling)
This counselling offers you the chance to talk face-to-face, in a caring, safe and non-judgemental environment.
For survivors of abuse, approaches such as person-centred therapy can be particularly suitable.
As a person centred practitioner my aim is to help you come to terms with your emotional issues and recognise your ability to take control of your life.
Abuse is a general term used to describe the mistreatment of any person, male or female, young or old, by another. There are three main forms of abuse – sexual, physical and emotional.
Whichever form of abuse that takes place, it can have far reaching effects and may cause feelings of confusion, depression and aggression.
Abuse of any form is an abuse of power. Survivors of abuse can display many and varied symptoms including:
- Guilt
- Shame
- Fear
- Grief
- Anger
- Helplessness
- Depression
Depending in the seriousness of the abuse and the nature of the survivor, these feelings can show up in many ways such as sexual aggression, sleep disorders, irrational fears, macho or seductive behaviours, eating disorders, allergies or an inability to concentrate.
Helps You Understand
Counselling or abuse helps you to understand yourself and your behaviours and problems better. It allows you to make better choices in your life. It can help to free you from the effects of the past so you can have a more fulfilling life.
